Il dolce è l’amaro is a sound installation in which a recorded voice tells a story about a personal bitter-sweet episode that occurred in the life of a friend. The narration could be heard by approaching the openings of the pipe structure and listening closely.
The idea for this installation started from observing the system of heating and water pipes commonly used in early twentieth-century residential buildings in Europe and Italy, as a system used to create connections across different floors and rooms.
With this structure, I intended to create a device capable of spreading the sound in a more indirect way, protecting the intimacy of a very personal story and allowing the narration to remain partially secret.
